GOP: Lost and Found in SEPA
"Why the GOP lost its grip on Phila. suburbs" is because it has strayed from the core Republican principles of limited government and fiscal conservatism. The play-to-the-base strategy that demagogues moral issues and abandons fiscal conservatism is why so many suburban voters feel alienated and have left the party.
Montgomery County Democratic Party Chairman Marcel L. Groen says: "Generally speaking, suburban voters are fiscally conservative and socially moderate...They used to be Rockefeller Republicans but now they're Democrats because there's no room in the Republican Party anymore for Rockefeller Republicans."
Whether you're a "Rockefeller Republican," an Eisenhower Republican, or a Republican of the Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Dewey or Ronald Reagan mold, there is a place in the GOP for you. If you share our vision of a Republican Party that is unified by the basic tenets of fiscal responsibility and personal freedom, but that allows for diverse opinions on social issues, the Republican Leadership Council welcomes you.
If you believe in low taxes with balanced budgets; a strong national defense and engaged foreign policy; protection of the environment; and less government interference in individual lives, I invite you to join our efforts. It's only by rebuilding the party from the grassroots up that we'll get a government that works to protect the health, safety and prosperity of all Pennsylvanians.

The republican party went to hell when it championed Regan. his polices are what got us to this sad state of affairs.
What we need is a candidate
What we need is a candidate who will put the peoples needs first. One who will not give in to the media, who doesn't care about the polls and is not afraid to drill for oil. The people can be pushed so far. Media friendly does not spell true conservative issues to me. I will not use a mercury filled light bulb and I will not hold with the cool-aid drinkers who say we need to understand everyone else's point of view. Time to grow some backbone people.

I guess I am confused by the comment "grow somed backbone people" and the anonymous signature. Who are you hoping will grow "some backbone" on your behalf?

One leg of the Party had its time in the sun since 198-- the one currently manifested through Mike Huckabee. Look at the mess our party and nation is in now.
Frankly, the Right Wing of
Frankly, the Right Wing of the Party had its chance in the Sun,and it blew it horribly.
Our party is going to lose tremendously in the Fall elections, and it needs to be so. Many GOP elected officials pertain to extremist and neoconservative positions, and they need to be swept from office in order for us to cleanse the party.
Otherwise, we are looking at 20-30 years of minority status.
Go Teddy Roosevelt and Progressives!
I dare say that as far as I
I dare say that as far as I am concerned, this is the end of my relationship with the Republican party. This is indeed the old east coast republican party reasserting themselves, with a touch of liberal green poison pill thrown in Now I can only hope one of the growing conservative third parties grow... that or pray for a true revolution.
Sadly, it appears that we
Sadly, it appears that we are losing because our party has ceased serving any of our three traditional groups, not just the "fiscal" conservative leg of the stool.
We had better get about the businesses of restoring our coalition or the 60s and 70s will make us nostalgic.
