Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman will come to Maine on Thursday to campaign for Republican 1st Congressional District candidate Charlie Summers.

Whitman, a former EPA administrator under President George W. Bush and co-founder of the Republican Leadership Council, will appear at a fund-raising breakfast in Portland.

Whitman and Summers will also tour D & G Machine Products and Au, Inc. in Westbrook, where Summers will speak about his position on energy issues.

Summers is running against Democrat Chellie Pingree for the seat in the U.S. House of Representatives presently held by Tom Allen.

For information about the fund-raising breakfast, scheduled for 7:45 a.m. at the Cumberland Club in Portland, visit Summers' Web site at www.summersforcongress.org
