A Strong Leadership
A leader is a person who can unite and work on both sides of the aisle to address domestic and foreign policy. Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and the Democratic leadership have failed to address the energy crisis in America. The Speaker of the House went to recess without a debate or a vote to address gas prices - they are not focused on the concerns of American people.
I am proud that the Republican minority in Congress continued to work to address the energy issues we face as a nation. It is vitsal that we find a way to address the energy crisis and not depend on foreign sources. Senator John McCain has shown strong leadership on the issue and conducted town hall meetings to listen to the concerns of the American people, demonstrating that he is a leader who can unite United States of America. Whether liberal, conservative, or moderate, he has shown his ability to work with people. We should follow his lead and unite as the Republican party - moderates, liberals, conservatives, men, women, all races and creeds - together we can address the problems we face as a country.

Unfortunately, this is
Unfortunately, this is exactly the kind of partisan viewpoint that ignores the mistakes and sins of our party in its move to the far right, its complicity in abetting, indeed accelerating our dependence on foreign oil, not taking a proactive and forward looking stance on the energy issue, and now pandering to the electorate with "Drill, Baby, Drill."
If the RLC is ever going to fulfill its stated intent, and moderates are ever going to regain a voice in the direction of the Republican Party, we are going to have to first acknowledge the missteps over the past 15-20 years, and then stand up and show our clear differences with the right wing.
If this isn't going to happen, then centrists like me are going to go elsewhere - as I will in this particular election - and the RLC may as well fold up its tent and save its money.
