The Truths Behind the Tea Parties
The banking collapse and the economic meltdown have prompted many Americans to turn to the federal government as indispensable savior, telling Congress and the president: We hope you can fix it; we want you to do whatever is necessary to fix it; and we don't care what it costs.
That was not the sentiment in evidence at the tea party protests held on Tax Day.
Tea party reminds Washington whose money it's spending
Revolutions often begin in unexpected or unplanned ways. For instance, in Boston it was the taxing of tea that helped set our Founding Fathers on the path to war.
In December 1773, colonists boarded three ships and threw their cargo into the Boston Harbor. This tea party served notice to the king in London that his loyal subjects in the New World believed the Tea Act violated their constitutional rights. Of course, the king and the British Parliament did not listen and passed even more authoritarian laws. This led to more protests and eventually sparked the American Revolution.
Tax Tea Party Day
Today was a day for those who felt left behind by their parties to speak out. The government is getting out of hand with $11,000,000,000,000 of spending. There is no way to pay this off. We have set ourselves up for the greatist grab of power by the government in history. We thought the Republicans spent a lot under Bush and the Republican Congress (WE DID). But they look like amatures compared to this crowd. The Republicans are making some good points now, but why didn't they do it when the held the deck???
